The State of New Hampshire Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) law went into effect June 1, 2017. It was passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor in 2016. As defined by state statute, accessory dwelling units are residential living units that are within or attached to a single family dwelling, and provide independent living facilities for one or more persons, including provisions for sleeping, eating, cooking, and sanitation on the same parcel of land as the principal dwelling unit it accompanies.
