New Hampshire Housing administers the Federal Housing Choice Voucher Rental Assistance Program throughout the State of New Hampshire. The rental assistance program provides subsidies on behalf of households who reside in a community's existing rental stock. The dwelling unit is selected by the household and must meet certain housing quality standards. The principal goal of the Housing Choice Voucher Program is to provide safe, decent, sanitary and affordable housing to very low income households. Program eligibility and assistance is based upon income and household size. Through the program, a qualified household pays a portion of their adjusted income towards rent and utilities and New Hampshire Housing pays the remainder directly to the landlord. Although New Hampshire Housing accepts all applications, this program has certain eligibility requirements which must be met. To be placed on the program, applicants must have incomes below 30% of area median income. However, the Authority is able to accept a limited number of admissions for applicants with incomes below 50% of area median income.
